MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

  • The Senior C&I Engineer shall lead Miscellaneous, Small and Large projects in the C&I Engineering function and/or support the Principal C&I Engineer / Lead C&I Engineer in managing C&I Engineering on projects. This requires independence in approach; it demands a considerable degree of originality, engineering ingenuity and judgement, and good knowledge of C&I engineering as demanded by the project.
  • The Senior C&I Engineer is responsible for the progress and quality of assigned tasks within the C&I Engineering discipline, including the supervision of C&I Engineers and Junior C&I Engineers.
  • The Senior C&I Engineer carries out all C&I engineering and design work in accordance with agreed codes and practices that meet all requirements of the contract and is responsible to ensure that all discipline work is carried out within agreed schedules, budgets and procedures as per the company Engineering Governance Standard.
  • The Senior C&I Engineer is responsible to conduct engineering and design work independently and in accordance with the Worley requirements set out in the Technical Stewardship Standard (TSS).
    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    C&I Engineering and Design
  • Undertake C&I engineering and design activities as required by the project, which could include system and/or equipment calculations, Instrumentation datasheets, engineering requisitions, C&I equipment lists, technical bid evaluations, C&I design criteria, input into the Basis of Design document, SEAL plan input, relevant design drawings and other C&I engineering related deliverables.
  • Utilise approved software and other analysis tools (eg validated spreadsheets for performing IS loop designs) for the design of C&I systems and equipment.
  • Liaising with Principal C&I Engineer and / or Manager C&I Engineering, to establish technical direction where not provided by codes and standards.
  • Understand and implement the national and industry codes and standards, as well as Customer specifications on all assigned work, and ensure the same if appointed in the Lead role.
  • Supervision and guidance of teams of C&I engineers involved with engineering and design on projects if appointed as a Lead C&I Engineer. This include the review and checking of deliverables as per the Worley Technical Stewardship Standard.

Project Execution:

  • When assigned, act as Lead C&I Engineer on projects, which require the supervision and guidance of a team of C&I engineers to deliver C&I engineering deliverables against a schedule and within a fixed budget allowance.
  • When assigned, lead C&I Engineering activities on Miscellaneous, Small and Large projects and providing technical leadership during all phases of projects (conceptual engineering, pre-feasibility engineering [FEL2], basic engineering [FEL3] and detailed engineering design).
  • When assigned as Lead C&I Engineer, schedule, control and expedite work assigned to the C&I Engineering team on a project.
  • Prepare, co-ordinate, assist, review and / or approve C&I engineering deliverables, as defined by the project Discipline Task and Deliverable Plan (DTDP).
  • Review and comment on vendor documents (including equipment and packages) for compliance to purchase order / contract requirements as well as to integrate equipment into the broader plant.
  • Support the National Discipline Manager C&I Engineering and/or Specialist Principal C&I Engineer/s to establish the scope of work and man-hour estimates for projects and / or proposals.
  • Identify and offer recommendations of new technology developments which will be applicable in providing more cost effective facilities or solutions.
  • Ensuring organisation procedures, methods and controls are adhered to on projects.

     

Technical Stewardship and SEAL Compliance:

  • Understand and implement the requirements of the Worley Technical Stewardship Standard, as well as include all specified engineering codes, standards, procedures, quality plans and in accordance with the SEAL Plan for the project.  
  • Maintain a personal accountability to achieving a ‘right first time’ approach on all deliverables.
  • Responsible for personal safety and understands the Asset Lifecycle implications of the design and ensure that hazards / risks are being identified and mitigated and to adhere to safe working practices. Understand and implement all legal requirements as required by the occupational Health and Safety Act and/or the Mines Health and Safety Act within C&I Engineering.

Financial / Cost Management:

  • When assigned as Lead C&I Engineer to a project, manage man-hours of C&I Engineering teams on projects and ensure that quality work is completed on schedule within the available budget.
  • Assist with the compilation of proposals, including tender clarifications, meetings, write-ups and man-hour estimates.

Learning and Development

  • Responsible for his professional development as engineer.
  • Act as mentor to more junior C&I engineers in line with the ECSA requirements.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BSc, BEng or BTech Electrical (Light Current) / Electronic Engineering from a recognised institute.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) with ECSA

Experience:

  • Experience in the Mining, Minerals and Chemicals, Hydrocarbons, Power and Public Infrastructure industries essential, across operations, design and project execution roles.
