This is a temporary position on a rotational schedule with an expected duration of 5-6 weeks and a start date in mid-January. The typical schedule is 84 hours per week (40 hours straight time and a minimum of 44 hours at time and a half). All meals and lodging are provided by Worley while the employee is on location. Transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided.

Job Purpose:

 

Our Project Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for management and execution of assigned projects in accordance with the requirements of the contract between Worley and clients, and in accordance with quality, safety, and cost control standards. The Piping Superintendent will plan and direct the work of the crews based on job criteria including size of crew, work complexity, and any applicable state or federal requirements. 

 

Essential Job Functions:

·       Monitors the activities of crew members and subcontractors performing craftwork, ensuring compliance with project quality, safety, and security requirements.

·       Ensures that all subordinates are trained on and aware of specifications and work procedures and are utilized to ensure optimal efficiency.

·       Maintains effective schedule and cost control of craft personnel.

·       Plans required work activities to ensure all resources are available when needed, including design drawings, tools, equipment, and materials.

·       Responsible for safety of supervised personnel; ensures that craft personnel comply with established safety policies and procedures, and that they practice safe work habits.

·       Initiates and maintains positive working relationships with client representatives within each facility, as well as other internal and external customers to facilitate project activities, understands current and future customer needs, and continually strives to exceed customer expectations.

·       Possesses an understanding and knowledge of the terms and conditions of contracts, including the scope of work and associated client deliverables. Manages work in accordance with project goals, contract and customer requirements and expectations, including performance, quality, compliance, and safety as outlined in the contract terms and conditions.

·       Adheres to Work Execution Plan expectations, including assigning work in accordance with work management processes and ensures the safe execution of work within the planned and approved scope, job plans, timelines, and approved budgets.

·       Evaluates risks, consequences and impacts of activities on customers and other key individuals as well as what in the business may potentially cause harm to people or property.

·       Supports the organization-wide approach to continuous improvement (CI) by working to improve processes, procedures and systems through CI initiatives, measurement, and evaluation.

·       Drives, promotes, and instills a culture of “Safety Leadership” that is incident and injury free and in which all employees feel responsible for safety and pursue it daily.

·       Promotes a safety culture that supports and encourages employees to go beyond the “call of duty” to identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and are comfortable intervening to correct inappropriate behaviors and concerns.

·       Educates and trains employees on the requirement to assess the risks applicable to tasks and required work. Ensures they have the understanding and capability to implement appropriate procedures and/or controls to reduce risk to an acceptable level and that each use any required personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

·       Communicates the organization’s goals and ensures employees understand the importance of their contribution to the organization towards delivering results.

·       Manages performance and employee development. Drives productivity through expectation setting, direct feedback, and coaching, addressing areas of concern/competence with each team member.

·       Monitors training and compliance with contract and company safety and environmental procedures and policies; documents and ensures that corrective measures are implemented when required.

·       Participates in, and supports, the Alaska Competency Assurance Program including completion of assessments for staff as required.

·       Management of sub-contractors.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

 

·       Strong planning and organizational skills.

·       Proven ability to plan, coordinate and execute high priority jobs in a timely manner that involve multiple crafts (drill site operation, general maintenance, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, etc.).

·       Ability and knowledge to interpret civil, structural, and piping design drawings, including P&ID’s as well as electrical diagrams.

·       Knowledge of technical and safety policies, procedures, and standards applicable to industrial construction, including welding.

·       Ability to communicate clear direction to work crew leads, craft persons, management, and client representatives.

·       Ability to work as part of a team, communicate effectively with fellow workers, and demonstrate commitment to established safety policies and procedures.

·       Ability to direct and motivate others in planning and scheduling work execution.

·       Ability to recognize and correct gaps in the safe execution of construction work scopes.

·       Ability to effectively lead and manage construction work crews.

·       Possess strong leadership and supervisory skills.

·       Ability to estimate construction efforts with a high degree of reliability.

·       Ability to analyze project cost and revenue and influence positive change to the financial performance of the project.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment: 

 

Work is performed in a remote Arctic environment with limited medical resources. Candidate understands the site is approximately 840 miles (at least 4 hours by air ambulance) from surgical, specialist, and tertiary medical care, and where medical evacuation from this location may be significantly delayed due to weather conditions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to: 

·       Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

·       Must stand throughout evaluation.

·       Aerobic capacity evaluation via 3-minute step test.

·       Sit and reach and range of motion evaluations.

·       Lift 25 lbs. from floor to waist with two hands.

·       Lift 25 lbs. from floor to shoulder with two hands.

·       Carry 25 lbs. for 15 feet with two hands.

·       Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in heavy industrial construction or maintenance required.

·       Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a discipline foreman role.

·       Five (5) years’ experience as a journeyman pipefitter.

·       Minimum of five (5) years of North Slope experience.

·       Valid driver’s license or ability to be insured by Worley’s auto insurance carrier. 

·       Alaskan residents are strongly preferred.
