Material Handling Engineer

About the role:

Worley are seeking a skilled and proactive Material Handling Engineer to support one of our major projects in the Danish sector. The Material Handling Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, development, and implementation of systems and processes that facilitate the efficient and safe movement, storage, control, and protection of materials throughout manufacturing, distribution, and logistics operations. The role requires strong technical knowledge of material handling equipment (MHE), automation systems, and logistics flow, ensuring systems meet operational, safety, and budgetary goals.

 

You’ll be:

  • Designing and optimising material handling systems (manual and automated), including conveyors, storage systems, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGVs), cranes, and packaging stations.
  • Developing layouts and detailed engineering drawings using CAD tools.
  • Analysing workflows and logistics data to improve material flow, reduce bottlenecks, and enhance productivity.
  • Specifing and evaluating material handling equipment and vendors based on performance, cost, and safety.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams including operations, procurement, logistics, and maintenance.
  • Leading or supporting the implementation of material handling projects, from concept through commissioning.
  • Ensuring compliance with HSE regulations and internal standards.
  • Preparingcost estimates, project schedules, and risk assessments for proposed systems.
  • Supporting the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and training materials.
  • Conducting root cause analysis and implement continuous improvement initiatives related to material handling performance.
  • Creating detailed material handling reports

Deliverables: 

  • Detailed material flow and equipment layout designs
  • Equipment specifications and procurement packages
  • Technical reports and cost/benefit analyses
  • Implementation plans and commissioning documentation
  • Updated SOPs and maintenance guidelines
  • Project status reports and risk assessments
  • Operational improvement metrics (e.g., throughput, downtime reduction)
  • Material handling reports

You’ll have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics Engineering, or a related field
  • Extensive relevant work experience can compensate for lack of formal education.
  • Previous experience in material handling system design and implementation
  • Knowledge of Danish legislation and offshore regulations is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with DNV standards is highly valued, but not an absolute requirement.
  • Experience with EPC and EPCIC project models and supplier follow-up across engineering and execution phases.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines and vendors.
  • Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written. Danish language skills are a plus.
