Subcontract Manager CSU
Building on our past. Ready for the future
Worley is a global professional services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts. We partner with customers to deliver projects and create value over the life of their assets. We’re bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.
Purpose of the role
Play an integral role in supporting Worley’s project delivery and commissioning activities by leading the management of subcontracts for commissioning and startup (CSU) phases. You’ll be at the forefront of ensuring that subcontracted services are procured, administered, and executed effectively — helping our customers bring complex assets safely and successfully online.
Core responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
Managing all subcontracting activities related to commissioning and startup, from strategy development through contract closeout.
Leading the preparation, negotiation, and execution of subcontracts that support CSU scope, ensuring terms align with project requirements and Worley’s commercial objectives.
Collaborating with engineering, procurement, project controls, and construction teams to ensure subcontract deliverables are aligned with technical, safety, and schedule milestones.
Overseeing subcontractor performance in the field, including scope execution, change management, and issue resolution.
Supporting commissioning and startup leadership in the planning and delivery of project readiness — ensuring all subcontract interfaces are clearly defined and contractually sound.
Administering post-award activities such as change orders, claims prevention, and contract closeout, maintaining full compliance with Worley policies and procedures.
Providing commercial guidance to CSU and project management teams, balancing risk and opportunity across multiple subcontracts.
Supporting the continuous improvement of subcontracting processes, systems, and tools to enhance efficiency and governance.
Mentoring and guiding junior team members, helping build capability in subcontract management across the organization.
What you’ll bring to the role
You’re an experienced subcontracts professional who understands the complexity of commissioning and startup activities in large-scale energy, chemicals, or resources projects. You bring:
A university degree in business, law, engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Typically 10+ years’ experience in subcontract or contract management, including experience in commissioning and startup project environments.
Proven expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex technical service and construction subcontracts.
A strong understanding of project execution strategies and the commercial aspects of large EPC or EPCM projects.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to anticipate and manage risk.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to influence, collaborate, and build trusted relationships with internal teams, customers, and subcontractors.
Proficiency with contract management systems and digital tools, with the ability to help others adopt and apply them effectively.
A proactive, pragmatic approach to delivery — with a focus on safety, integrity, and continuous improvement.
