Purpose

Join our dynamic team as a Senior Marine Technical Consultant. You will lead and oversee marine fish and habitat assessments, ensuring the collection, analysis, and reporting of biological, chemical, and physical data. This role supports environmental compliance, project permitting, and the preparation of technical documentation, contributing to the protection and sustainable management of marine and aquatic environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and lead marine fish and fish habitat assessments, including data collection and analysis.
  • Prepare and submit daily field survey reports detailing findings and recommended actions.
  • Assist with oceanographic, wildlife, vegetation, clean soils, fisheries, aquatic, and reclamation field programs as needed.
  • Lead the preparation of permit and approval applications, including supporting documentation.
  • Oversee compliance support activities, including environmental monitoring.
  • Prepare marine science baseline reports and effects assessments.
  • Perform data entry and analysis.
  • Manage client relationships and communicate effectively through verbal and written correspondence.
  • Travel as required for various field programs.
     

What you will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience: 

  • Thorough understanding of aquatic life forms, coastal ecology, and marine habitat. 
  • Demonstrated experience with Canadian marine environmental legislation (e.g., Species at Risk Act, Fisheries Act, Navigable Waters Protection Act, Canadian
  • Environmental Protection Act, BC Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act). 
  • Knowledge of Environmental Assessments and Environmental Management Planning. 
  • Familiarity with marine industries such as ports and terminals, pipelines, dredging, shipping, and fisheries is an advantage.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal, management, and leadership abilities. 
  • Technical writing proficiency. 
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment. 
  • Excellent computer skills. 
  • Readiness to travel for local and national projects.

     

     

    Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
     

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in marine biology or a related field. 
  • Professional Biologist designation (R.P.Bio) or ability to quickly obtain.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license 

     

     

    For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $91,594 to $164,514.

     

    Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
