The Role

 
As an Strategic Development with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc. The Strategy team leads development of our corporate and business strategies, working across business lines, sectors, and functions. Tasked with ensuring the strategy architecture is implemented across the business, this team also stewards the actions required to achieve the overall strategic intent. The team is small but high-impact (including 8 McKinsey, Oliver Wyman and Deloitte consulting alumni on the team)To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes:

  • Overview of the role :
    • Worley’s success is due in large part to our strategic planning and execution.
    • We are looking to strengthen our strategic capabilities across strategy and management consulting spheres.
    • We are looking for highly analytical and creative thinkers to join our Strategy team based in India.
    • In this role, you will be responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, and developing proprietary insights, and crafting recommendations to support the strategic decision-making of the company.
    • You will also be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders to drive change and execution of strategy.
    • You will also need to conduct analyses and drive projects with minimal supervision .
  • Responsibilities (not exhaustive):

The Group Strategy team undertakes a range of high visibility and high impact initiatives that drive wealth creation for the enterprise. The team operates as an internal “strategy consulting” function, working closely together in quick iterations to develop answers to challenging and ambiguous problems.

  •  Market analysis and insight
    • Execute and deliver on key market analyses including, but not limited to, growth projections and trends, supply and demand, cost curves, and economic and financial analysis and modelling. 
    • Perform thorough, systematic analysis of key industry trends; the general social economic and political environment; legal and regulatory issues (including incentives); customers; current and potential competitors. 
    • Translate information and analyses above into proprietary / actionable insights and sound recommendations to inform senior leadership’s strategic business decisions 
    • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of designated markets and trends through reading reports, market research, data manipulation and financial modeling and analysis. 
    • Support development of strategy-focused deliverables for external communications. 
    • Drive processes for ongoing collection of data and ensure analyses of macro trends, market, customer, and competitor intelligence remain ever green.
  • Drive strategy development
    • Work with the Group Strategy team to evaluate Where to Play and How to Play and How to Win.
    • Supply the market and competitive intelligence component of strategic planning, and proactively making recommendations concerning key intelligence items that require further consideration.
    • Interface between Operations, Sales, Marketing, Sectors, and other functions to ensure alignment between formulation and execution of strategies
    • Working with internal strategy network to enhance their use of strategic analysis and market and competitor intelligence.
  • Strategy / internal consulting projects
    • Support the Group Strategy team through leading a range of strategy projects, including: 
    • Portfolio analysis
    • Market landscaping and segmentation 
    • Competitor profiling and acquisition target prioritization 
    • Strategic capability assessment 
    • Commercial analysis (sales, go-to-market, pricing etc) o digital and technology development 
    • Frame, scope and analyze strategic problems and recommend best courses of action
    • Generate strategy collateral necessary for key decision-making activities (e.g. strategy sessions, investor days, corporate reporting, budget planning). 
    • Undertake ad-hoc projects requested by the CEO or Board.
  • Contribute to a progressive Way of Working and a high performing team

About You

Competencies and Behaviors 

  • Strategic mindset with an ability to think broadly yet critically, refine questions, and develop 
  • analytical frameworks
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills and good business acumen. 
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with common strategy methodologies and analyses 
  • Capable of executing a wide range of data, modelling and analytical concepts and methodologies, 

Including:

    • Market sizing 
    • Competitive analysis 
    • Cost curve development 
    • Profit pool analysis 
    • Supply and demand analysis 
    • Financial modeling and valuation 
    • Portfolio review (e.g. where to invest, where to divest) 
    • Forecasting / econometrics 
    • Impact of tax and economic incentives on business activities 
    • Customer needs analysis / primary research 
  • Able to synthesize large amounts of information from diverse sources to identify trends and 
  • issues, recommend solutions proactively, and apply problem-solving and analytical expertise
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects concurrently, balancing priorities 
  • Experience with industry research tools such as Rystad, Bloomberg, CapitalIQ, etc. 
  • High emotional intelligence with strong verbal and written communication skills, including story 
  • lining and laying out high quality collateral
  • Good understanding of the Worley’s customers, market subsectors and competitors 
  • Live and breathe the Worley values and leadership principles 
  • Ability to work within environment of change and defining direction within that context. Adept at 
  • navigating ambiguity to facilitate outcomes.
  • Resourceful at finding data and information to feed analyses. 
  • Comfortable communicating with, and presenting to, personnel at all levels from front-line personnel to senior leaders.

 Qualifications and experience

  • 2-4 years experience in strategy consulting professional services firm 
  • 2+ years working experience in Energy, Chemicals and/or Resources sectors 
  • University/Bachelor’s degree in a related subject – e.g. Chemical engineering, Mechanical 
  • Engineering, Economics, Mathematics etc.
  • MBA or relevant graduate degree 
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel (including financial modelling), PowerPoint and Word 
  • Experience with presenting to groups, including senior leaders, with confidence and poise 

Other Requirements:

  • Flexibility is needed in order to connect and work with others across multiple time zones and 
  • cultures, given we are a distributed global business
  • Some overtime may be required to meet deadlines 
  • Minimal travel may be required
