The Role

As a Principal Piping Engineer with Worley, you will work closely with our existing team to deliver projects for our clients while continuing to develop your skills and experience etc. 

Section Head is responsible for: 

  • Timely completion of design, requisitions, and engineering deliverables.
  • Discipline, operation and efficiency of Discipline.
  • Adherence to Dept. / Discipline Working Instructions and QMS Manual.
  • Allocation of proper personnel to projects and proposals.
  • Overview of work progress and work-hour usage.
  • Staff recruitment, development, and administration.
  • Working within company budgets 

Main Duties / Responsibilities: 

  • Quality Policy, Core Values and Objectives:  Committed for the implementation of Quality Policy and Core Values. 

The main objectives to be achieved are: 

  • Delight Client – Ensure completion of project within budget, schedule & quality.
  • Development and growth of people.
  • Providing superior value and lower cost to the client.
  • Continual improvement in productivity and quality.
  • Involve in Technical Issues.

Each of these objectives would be measured against the Performance Advancement Plan. 

Discipline Management: 

  • Ensure that the Discipline’s structure, competence, and resources are compatible with the Company’s current and forecast needs.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in a professional manner, adequate in all respects, particularly in relation to safety, quality, and adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Ensure that each Manager / Chief Engineer / Principal / Senior Engineer reporting to the Head is competent and briefed at all times on Company Policies and his specific duties / responsibilities.
  • Ensure proper codes & standards to be followed in Material & Stress.  

Staffing / Human Resources: 

  • Ensure people produce excellent work and continually improve their skills to grow the Company.
  • Evaluate competence of staff for their current roles and assess potential for increased responsibility or alternate job role.  Recommend appropriate training dependent upon this evaluation.
  • Ensure that staff have a safe and comfortable work environment to produce their best effort.
  • Interview and select all personnel including agency staff.
  • Establish required personnel to maintain the project production / planning schedule for his assigned
  • Area of responsibility :
    • Ensure C.V.s for all staff are regularly updated.
    • Assist in staff salary reviews, staff grading and recommend promotions within the Discipline.
    • Can appoint Sub-Contractor, technical evaluation, plan & control smoothly execute work at sub con place. 

Budget / Planning: 

  • Ensure that suitable controls are established and maintained in the Discipline to keep expenditure within the limits set by the Discipline budget for work on development, standards, training, 
    administration and general.
  • Prepare forward loading requirements and ensure availability of personnel.
  • Ensure all work within his scope of responsibility is completed in accordance with the accepted project plan and within the work-hour budget allocated. 

Documentation: 

  • Maintain a Discipline documentation procedure which ensures that the Discipline working instructions, procedures, specification and methods are prepared and revised as necessary to comply with the latest technology and the current issue of the Company procedures.
  • Ensures that all personnel are aware of the latest issue of the above 
  • Establishes and maintains Discipline documentation procedure for numbering all documents, data and drawings prepared by the Discipline. This procedure must conform with the Company documentation system. 
  • Establishes and maintains a Discipline procedure for recording and filing documentation received in the group. 

Measurement and Performance: 

  • Through regular contact with discipline and project personnel and by regular review of the project status reports, ensure up to-date and reliable statistical information on project performance is 
    available.  
  • Improve the productivity by means of reduction of rework and errors. 

Proposals / Business Development: 

  • Undertake the Discipline co-ordination and completion of the requirements on proposals.
  • Keep copy of all work-hour estimates to be forward to the Manager of Design Engineering in accordance with the Company Procedures.
  • Respond adequately to the Company’s Sales requirements. Approve all design and project work-hours estimate for Proposals/Projects before submission to the Sales, Whenever required. 

Client Liaison: 

  • Review client’s documentation for acceptability.
  • Ensure Manager / Chief Engineer / Principal / Lead Engineer inform Project Manager of any client deviation requests.
  • Meet client expectations and maintain long-term relationship with client. Attend to client’s feedback and any complaints. 

Technical Participation:

  • Ensure all documentation within the scope of his responsibility is prepared, checked, reviewed, and approved and completed in time in accordance with the Discipline Working Instructions and Project 
  • Quality Plan.
  • Raise RFIs for any missing information and clarifications.
  • Assist in review of vendor’s bids and documentation in critical areas for technical acceptability.
  • Carry out inspection of critical equipment/item as per relevant approved documents (like Purchase
  • Orders, Final Vendor Drawings etc.) to ensure that equipment/item manufactured is in line with all approved Technical Specifications, when called for by the Project Manager.
  • Provide technical expertise to other engineering disciplines as necessary.
  • Trouble shooting of Material & Stress.

Special Responsibilities: 

  • Review technical requirements of client’s specifications and ensure that agreement is reached on the basis of design. Participate in discussions with the client, as necessary.
  • Investigate, analyze and implement systems, and methods to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • These investigations include:
    • Computer aided design techniques.
    • Routine calculations by use of computer.
    • Monitoring latest developments and latest techniques in his area of functioning.
    • Handle Automation in Piping Engineering (Material & Stress).
  • Arrange for the services of consultants where specialist assistance is required; arrange for competent hired staff or sub-contractor for off-loading the work, when required.
  • Review QCS for all major equipment.
  • Monitor that work and progress are in compliance with the project requirements and schedule.
  • Maintain contact with other disciplines/groups to ensure:
    • Project Manager and/or Engineer are aware of problems of progress delays.
    • Proper interchange of information.
    • Proper interchange of documents.
    • Interface are correctly defined.
  • Ensure that site problems viz. Technical Queries and Non-conformity Notices are dealt with effectively and expeditiously and also ensure competent staff are available for site trouble shooting as necessary.
  • Attend Design Engineering Management Review Meetings.
  • Furnish administrative and technical directives to discipline personnel.
  • Maintain discipline.
  • Conduct monthly meetings to discuss month’s achievements, quality problems and challenges in month ahead. 

Miscellaneous: 

In addition, carry out such tasks from time to time as directed by Department Head-Piping, commensurate with the work expected of this position.

About You

To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following attributes: 

  • Education - A degree in Chemical / Mechanical Engineering Discipline
  • Experience - 15 to 22 years in Piping Engineering and Construction support in piping field, preferably with a consultant. Having overall knowledge in Piping Material & Stress.
