Principal Electrical Engineer / Electrical Engineering Department Manager

Englewood / Denver, CO

Purpose of the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to take on the role of Electrical Engineering Department Manager. This individual will oversee the electrical engineering team, provide technical expertise, and ensure the successful execution of projects. The ideal candidate will bring significant experience in natural gas processing, oil refining, and/or the chemical industry to support our clients in the U.S. West Region. This role involves technical leadership, personnel management, and strategic coordination with other departments to drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Personnel Management:

·         Lead by example in promoting safe work habits.

·         Assess and enhance the technical competence of electrical engineering personnel.

·         Recruit and onboard skilled Electrical Engineers, fostering integration into the team.

·         Conduct annual performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.

·         Serve as a mentor to both assigned and general staff within the department.

·         Perform annual salary assessments and communicate outcomes to employees.

·         Support career development initiatives within the electrical engineering team.

·         Identify subject matter experts and contribute to global knowledge-sharing efforts.

Project Execution:

·         Collaborate with Project Management to forecast resource needs.

·         Allocate Electrical Engineering staff to meet project requirements efficiently.

·         Ensure departmental commitments and project milestones are met.

·         Foster inter-discipline communication and resolve interface challenges.

·         Prepare and review Electrical Engineering staffing estimates for project tasks.

·         Promote utilization of global engineering resources in India and Bogotá.

·         Drive cost reduction and productivity-enhancing initiatives.

·         Ensure compliance with Worley’s quality assurance, safety, and sustainability standards.

·         Maintain accountability for department cost and schedule commitments.

Strategic Leadership and Communication:

·         Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

·         Participate in Global Engineering Team initiatives and discussions.

·         Contribute to global Process Engineering Managers meetings.

·         Foster a culture of open communication and continuous improvement within the department.

Engineering Expertise:

·         Act as Lead Electrical Engineer on assigned projects.

·         Ensure the integrity of electrical designs and adherence to standards.

·         Identify and recommend necessary electrical software and tools.

·         Promote a collaborative and communicative work environment.

·         Develop electrical engineering project estimates and manage budgets.

·         Oversee compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.

·         Monitor industry advancements and incorporate relevant technologies.

·         Provide technical supervision and guidance to designers and drafters.

·         Generate electrical progress reports and assess performance.

  • Benchmark and implement best practices for electrical design and drafting.

Qualifications & Skillset:

Technical & Industry Experience:

·         Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering.

·         Proficiency in creating grounding, area classification, power distribution, single-line, and motor control drawings.

·         Deep understanding of ANSI, IEEE, IEC, NEC, and other industry codes, specifications, and standards.

·         Experience with arc flash requirements and calculations.

·         Proficiency in AC Mitigation analysis and various power system calculations (load flow, short circuit, harmonics, equipment sizing, grounding, transient stability, insulation coordination, etc.).

·         Knowledge of high, medium, and low voltage electrical equipment (MCCs, transformers, switchgear, etc.).

·         Strong client interfacing and needs assessment skills.

·         Proven leadership experience in Department Management and Instrumentation & Controls.

·         Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and establish clear expectations.

·         Hands-on experience with electrical modeling and analysis software, such as ETAP or EasyPower (ETAP preferred).

·         Experience with Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates.

·         Ability to manage scope, schedule, and budget across multiple projects.

·         Familiarity with electrical construction, installation practices, and plant start-up requirements.

·         Commitment to corporate goals and execution strategies.

Education & Certifications:

·         Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.

·         Required: Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Colorado and California.

·         Preferred: PE licensure in additional states, including Wyoming, North Dakota, and Texas.

Additional Information:

·         Location: Englewood/Denver, CO area.

·         Salary: $143,133 - $210,490 annually (commensurate with experience).

·         Benefits: Eligible for PTO, 401(k), medical, vision, dental, and other company benefits.
