Payroll Lead

As a Payroll Lead you will have a strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, including Enterprise Agreements (EAs), Modern Awards, and National Employment Standards (NES). This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with statutory obligations, and continuous improvement of payroll systems and processes.

This role sits in our Power Services division which provides operations and maintenance services to 31 power generation assets across Australia. What you’ll do
Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 300 employees on a weekly and monthly basis.
Interpret and apply Enterprise Agreements and Awards accurately in payroll calculations.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including NES, Fair Work Act, Superannuation, PAYG, and STP reporting.
Oversee payroll system administration and upgrades (e.g., AX, SAP, ADP, etc.).
Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data (e.g. new hires, terminations, leave, salary changes).
Prepare and reconcile payroll reports, including superannuation, tax, and leave liabilities.
Manage payroll audits and respond to internal and external audit queries.
Provide leadership, training, and support to payroll staff.
Maintain confidentiality and data integrity in all payroll-related matters.
What you’ll have
Extensive payroll experience, including proven success in a leadership role.
Proven experience interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements and Awards.
Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation and compliance requirements.
Proficiency in payroll systems and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or HR (desirable).
Desirable
Experience in power generation, mining services industries is a plus.
Familiarity with salary packaging, workers compensation, and long service leave schemes.
Ability to lead process improvement initiatives and system implementations.
