Purpose:
The Nuclear and Radiation Safety Manager is responsible for leading the Nuclear and Radiation Safety function. This role organizes and leads Worley Nuclear and Radiation Safety function to help the Customer ensure the project is effectively and technically developed to meet the contract and standards requirements, local and international codes, timeline and budget during all project phases – design, installation, testing and commissioning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Nuclear Safety Case & Safety Assessments - Review safety cases to demonstrate compliance with nuclear safety principles throughout design, construction, and commissioning. Assess deterministic and probabilistic safety analyses (e.g., PSA Level 1 and Level 2).
Design Changes & Impact on Nuclear Safety - Evaluate design changes/modifications and configuration changes that impact nuclear and radiation safety and advise the Customer for approval/rejection.
Safety-Related Systems in Commissioning & Testing - Oversee and review commissioning tests of safety-critical systems results. Evaluate test results to confirm compliance with design and licensing requirements.
Radiation Protection & ALARA Implementation - Ensure that radiation protection measures align with IAEA GSR Part 3 and national regulatory standards.
Safety Management System & Organizational Readiness – Support in the elaboration and assess the Owner/Operator’s organization and management system in relation to nuclear safety.
Emergency Preparedness & Severe Accident Management - Assess and review severe accident management guidelines and emergency preparedness programs.
Member of the consultant operational readiness team that develops and supports implementing the Customer's operation readiness plan.
Responsible for providing the necessary technical support and input to the Worley Project Manager and team.
Establishes Worley Nuclear and Radiation Safety resource requirements and ensures the necessary resources for the project.
Ensures Worley nuclear and radiation safety systems and procedures are developed and rolled out for the project and work is performed in accordance with Worley internal processes and procedures.
Coordinates effectively with other project disciplines.
Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Radiation Protection is a must.
10+ years of experience in nuclear and radiation safety on large scale projects and management of multi-cultural teams.
Certification in Nuclear Safety, Radiation Protection, or Reactor Licensing is a plus. Deep understanding of IAEA, WANO, or national nuclear safety regulatory frameworks.
Background in nuclear safety assessments, licensing, and operational readiness reviews.
Direct involvement in pre-commissioning, commissioning, and operational readiness reviews of a nuclear power plant.
Deep understanding of deterministic and probabilistic safety analysis and IAEA safety standards (SSR-2/1, SSR-2/2, GSR Part 4)
Reactor physics, core safety, and radiation monitoring.
ALARA implementation and dose management.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in safety assessment and risk evaluation.
Ability to interpret complex safety-related test results and commissioning data.
Excellent communication skills for regulatory engagement, technical presentations, and coordination with stakeholders.
Leadership ability to promote a robust nuclear safety culture within the project and Client teams.
Prior involvement in IAEA Operational Readiness Reviews (ORR) or WANO Pre-Startup Peer Reviews.
Familiarity with digital tools for safety management and risk assessment.
