Purpose:
Responsibilities:
- Correctly interpret ASME code & customer’s data sheets, drawing and specifications
- Review contract/custom specification to establish product requirements
- Independently design shell & tube heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and towers in accordance with ASME Code and TEMA.
- Completely understand the most common used building Code, such as IBC, NBC, CNBC, ASCE, UBC, EN, as well as AS/NZ.
- Perform the detailed stress analysis using FEA when required.
- Prepare &/or review mechanical design calculations of all products fabricated in the shop floor, such as Shell & Tube Heat exchangers, Pressure vessel, Process Towers, Piping system, etc. in accordance with ASME Code and mechanical engineering knowledge.
- Prepare &/or review fabrication drawings using AutoCAD/SolidWorks for all products fabricated in the shop.
- Correctly design welding detail and apply the proper welding procedures to each individual welding details based on the material type and application condition.
- Prepare &/or review Bill of Material in accordance with design calculation & fabrication drawings, specify correct material specification in accordance with customer requirement and ASME Code.
- Interface with all internal departments to produce high quality mechanical designs, drawings and bill of materials for shop floor.
- Provide technical support during fabrication process.
What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:
- Senior level design experience in manufacturing environment of shell/tube heat exchanger, pressure vessel, as well as piping is mandatory.
- Completely and deeply understand the manufacturing process such as welding process, machining process, assembling process of heat exchanger, pressure vessel, tower and piping system.
- Working knowledge of relevant industry code and standards, such as ASME Section I, Section II, Section VIII, Section IX, TEMA, API Standards, ASME B31.3, ASME/ANSI Flange and Fitting Standards, NACE Standards, WRC 107/297 etc.
- Working knowledge of ASME Section III will be definitely beneficial.
- Working knowledge of Pressure Vessel & Heat exchanger design program, such as PV Elite, COMPRESS, as well as any other pressure vessel design software.
- Working knowledge of using NozzlePRO program, FEA program such as SolidWorks simulation, ANSYS, or Autodesk Mechanical Simulation.
- Excellent and highly efficient skill for using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge in creating drawings for mechanical parts and assemblies
- Working knowledge in documentation filing and electronic database
- Certify/stamp design calculation and drawings for CRN registration. Capable of working with local jurisdiction independently for all registration issues.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or equivalent.
- Must be registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
