Job Purpose:

The Mechanic Apprentice is responsible for performing preventative maintenance on heavy and light duty vehicles in a controlled environment under the supervision of an assigned mentor. The position is located on the North Slope and requires a rotational work schedule. Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided; however, transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided. Room and meals are provided while in Prudhoe Bay. The Mechanic Apprentice opportunity is only available to current University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) students enrolled in an applicable automotive program.
 

Essential Job Functions:

·        Verify and perform any necessary preventive maintenance on all heavy equipment and/or light duty vehicles.

·        Checks and maintain all levels of oils, greases, and other lubricants in heavy equipment and/or light duty vehicles according to specified procedures and oral instructions.

·        Inspect equipment belts, hoses, and leaks.

·        Document any necessary maintenance.

·        Coordinates repairs needed with shop foreman and will make minor repairs/adjustments

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·        Knowledge of heavy equipment and/or light duty vehicles preventative maintenance.

·        Knowledge of and experience in lubrication procedures for all types of heavy and light equipment common to heavy construction and oilfield service industries.

·        Ability to maintain preventative maintenance records.

·        Ability to work closely with mechanics.

·        Ability to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.

·        Ability to use hand and power tools.

·        Ability to read and understand job descriptions, safety/technical manuals, and safety/warning signs.

·        Ability Ability to work as part of a team; communicate effectively with coworkers.

·        Ability to demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.

·        Ability to demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system.

Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, reach through low and high ranges, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

·        Must stand throughout evaluation.

·        Aerobic capacity evaluation via 3 Minute step test.

·        Sit and reach and range of motion evaluations.

·        Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist with two hands.

·        Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder with two hands.

·        Carry 50 lbs. for 15 feet with two hands.

·        Push/pull 60 lbs. sled for 20 feet.

·        Push/pull 90 lbs. cart for 20 feet.

·        Kneel 60 seconds, stand, kneel 60 seconds, stand.

·        Squat 60 seconds.

In-Vehicle Monitoring System: As part of our commitment to safety and accountability, company vehicles are equipped with in-cab cameras and vehicle monitoring systems. All data is subject to review by management to ensure compliance with company policies and safe driving practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

·        Enrolled in either the Certificate or AAS Diesel Power Technology programs at UAA.

·        High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

·        North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC). Worley can provide NSTC certification training if needed.


Preferred Qualifications:

·        Petrochemical, oilfield or arctic experience preferred.
