Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Welder Fabricator (Rotational Schedule - Fleet Shop) – Prudhoe Bay, AK

This is a remote/ rotational position, working nights, in Prudhoe Bay, AK. The typical schedule is 84 hours per week (40 hours straight time and a minimum of 44 hours at time and a half). All meals and lodging are provided by Worley while the employee is on location. Transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided.

Job Purpose:

Responsible for all aspects of maintenance and the repairing of heavy and light equipment including welding of metal components and structures in and out of the shops.

Essential Job Functions:

·       Analyze, diagnose, repair, rebuild and provide maintenance of heavy and light duty equipment such as hydraulic and lattice boom cranes, backhoes, motor graders, bulldozers, front end loaders, tractor-trailers, water, and vac trucks.

·       Dismantles, repairs, and reassembles equipment using hoists, hand tools and pneumatic and electric tools.

·       Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance.

·       Work on engines, structural systems, hydraulic and electrical systems, and subassemblies such as transmissions and differentials.

·       Select equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding, applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

·       Lay out, positions, align, and fit components together.

·       Weld in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.

·       Repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts, using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools.

·       Routinely perform safety and productivity observations: shop, field, vehicle, and equipment.

·       Perform duties in shop or in field as necessary.

·       Routinely operate Worley/client light and/or medium duty vehicles.

·       Safely climb ladders of various heights.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

·       Knowledge of diesel theory, hydraulics, electrical and pneumatic systems.

·       Knowledge of heavy equipment and/or light duty equipment preventative maintenance.

·       Knowledge of and experience in lubrication procedures for all types of heavy equipment common to heavy construction and oilfield service industries.

·       Knowledge of operation of welding equipment, electrodes, fluxes, shielding gasses and welding processes

·       Knowledge of carbon steel and other alloy metals, including stainless steel and aluminum.

·       Ability to read and understand engineering prints.

·       Ability to maintain equipment maintenance records.

·       Ability to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and task assignments.

·       Ability to use hand and power tools including the tools and equipment used in the welding process.

·       Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprint/drawings, job descriptions, maintenance/safety/technical manuals, and safety/warning signs.

·       Knowledge and ability to use diagnostic equipment and computers.

·       Ability to work as part of a team; communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternate.

·       Ability to demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures.

·       Ability to demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system.

Physical Demand/Work Environment:

Work is performed in a remote Arctic environment with limited medical resources. Candidate understands the site is approximately 840 miles (at least 4 hours by air ambulance) from surgical, specialist, and tertiary medical care, and where medical evacuation from this location may be significantly delayed due to weather conditions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to: 

·           Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, crawl, reach through low and high ranges, work overhead, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

·           Standing for prolonged periods of time.

·           Driving for prolonged periods of time in the dark and inclement weather

·           Ability to climb scaffold, ramps, stairs, equipment, portable ladders, and/or wellhouse/tank/facility fixed ladders of 20 feet or greater.

·           Ability to wear and utilize fall protection within manufacturer specifications.

·           Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist with two hands.

·           Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder with two hands.

·           Carry 50 lbs. for 15 feet with two hands.

·           Push/pull 60 lbs. sled for 20 feet.

·           Push/pull 90 lbs. cart for 20 feet.
