This is a remote/ rotational position, in Prudhoe Bay, AK. The typical schedule is 84 hours per week (40 hours straight time and a minimum of 44 hours at time and a half). All meals and lodging are provided by Worley while the employee is on location. Transportation between Anchorage and Prudhoe Bay is provided.

Job Purpose: 

The GMT - Scaffold Tech performs craft level scaffold support in accordance with all safety, environmental and operational practices and policies and procedures. The GMT-Scaffold Tech performs duties under the supervision of Scaffold Lead associated with the erection and dismantling of various types of scaffold for use by other crafts.

Essential Job Functions:

·       Construct, erect, maintain and dismantle scaffold per OSHA, ADOSH, and client specifications.

·       Use multiple scaffold systems including construction grade lumber and patented pre-manufactured scaffold components.

·       Provide coaching, mentoring in the craft of scaffolding to other crew members.

·       Willing to learn and develop skills in other craft areas to improve the crew’s performance.

·       Comply with specifications requirements in scaffolding and mechanical applications.

·       Performs many types of work, including but not limited to, scaffolding, light pipefitting, tank cleaning, light valve repair, Sheetmetal, insulation, and miscellaneous facility maintenance.

·       Examine work and materials for compliance with specifications.

·       Attend various technical, developmental and safety training.

·       Routinely performs safety and scaffolding component integrity inspections.

·       Demonstrate adherence to established safety policies and procedures and accept accountability for safe work practices.

·       Demonstrate support for the company’s environmental management system.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

·       Knowledge of standard rigging procedures and OSHA requirement.

·       Knowledge of scaffolding techniques and procedures required, skill in erecting multi scaffold systems, with tube & clamp and Safeway scaffold systems.

·       Knowledge of various fasteners, hardware, materials, and other commonly used scaffolding components.

·       Knowledge of crane and hand signals.

·       Knowledge of OSHA and ADOSH scaffold specifications.

·       Ability to problem solve and come up with solutions to everyday maintenance issues.

·       Ability to lead and train others on scaffolding.

·       Ability to give and understand common hand signals and to safely connect to and lift equipment and materials. 

·       Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications as they pertain to scaffolding.

·       Ability to work comfortably at heights and adhere to fall protection policies and procedures. 

·       Ability to work as part of a team; communicate effectively with fellow workers and alternate.

·       Operate vehicles (pickups, flatbed F-550 trucks) and other equipment (manlifts, material handling and etc).

·       Ability to perform strenuous physical labor in harsh winter conditions and hot environments.

·       Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

Physical Demand/Work Environment:


Work is performed in a remote Arctic environment with limited medical resources. Candidate understands the site is approximately 840 miles (at least 4 hours by air ambulance) from surgical, specialist, and tertiary medical care, and where medical evacuation from this location may be significantly delayed due to weather conditions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to: 

·       Must have ability to stand, walk on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, sit, squat, kneel, crawl, reach through low and high ranges, work overhead, and exhibit normal balance and coordination. These basic physical requirements are essential for safe performance of the job in harsh environments with exposure to very cold temperatures and while wearing arctic gear.

·       Standing for prolonged periods of time.

·       Driving for prolonged periods of time in the dark and inclement weather

·       Ability to climb scaffold, ramps, stairs, equipment, portable ladders, and/or wellhouse/tank/facility fixed ladders of 20 feet or greater.

·       Ability to wear and utilize fall protection within manufacturer specifications.

·       Lift 50 lbs. from floor to waist with two hands.

·       Lift 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder with two hands.

·       Carry 50 lbs. for 15 feet with two hands.

·       Push/pull 60 lbs. sled for 20 feet.

·       Push/pull 90 lbs. cart for 20 feet.

·       One (1) year minimum experience as a competent scaffold builder.

·       Valid driver’s license and the ability to be insured by Worley auto insurer.

·       High school diploma or equivalent GED.

·       North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC). Worley can provide NSTC certification training, if needed.

Preferred Qualifications: 

·       Two (2) years scaffold experience petrochemical, oilfield, or arctic experience.

·       Experience with other crafts, such as Sheetmetal, insulation, pipefitting, and valves.

·       Experience or previous employment with Worley.

·       Alaska resident capable of short notice mobilization.

·       Class B CDL.
