Purpose:
We are currently recruiting for a Department Manager Mechanical Engineering. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time position based in Markham, Ontario.
Reporting to the location Director of Engineering, provide Mechanical and Piping Engineering discipline management and technical direction to a large group of employees for all facets of operations under the administrative guidelines of the company.
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for leading team members including their ongoing development and their assignment on projects.
- Maintain team chargeability targets as set by the Director of Engineering.
- Maintain individual chargeability targets as set by the Director of Engineering.
- Control discipline staffing levels and monitor project discipline structures.
- Create and maintain discipline guidelines.
- Ensure mentoring & training requirements are met.
- Manage the employee performance review process.
- Facilitate coverage of activities when people leave the team.
- Ensure Mechanical and Piping Engineering discipline technical work and team activities meet all health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
- Assist in developing proposals and manhour estimates as required.
- Provide technical consultation to customer and Company management as needed.
- Responsible for the overall quality of deliverables produced within his / her department.
- Ensure compliance with all laws and regulations applicable to the business unit.
- Set standards and goals; enforce company policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all Human Resources policies; recommends additions or revisions as appropriate.
- Build appropriate, constructive, and effective business relationships throughout the organization including with workshare offices; use diplomacy and tact; be approachable; communicate clearly, accurately, and consistently both verbally and in written matters. Employ the principles of active listening and encourage feedback from others.
- Support project discipline leads, assist in resolving project delivery issues, and support leads in achieving their workshare targets.
What you will bring:
Technical and Industry Experience:
- Significant experience including technical and staff supervisory experience.
- Experience with coaching, mentoring and managing performance.
- Ability to manage resources for multiple complex projects.
- Experience with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of personnel.
- A strong background in discipline work, and a competent understanding of regulations, codes, manufacturing standards, and industry standard practices.
- Experience in discipline setup, instituting work processes, monitoring a team, producing deliverables, and project delivery.
- Capable of effectively communicating and presenting complex program proposals and resource plans.
- Proven leadership skills in multi-cultural and multi-office environments with a cooperative team approach.
- Commitment to customer service and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Experience in the development of proposals and manhour estimates.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, execution, and problem solving.
- Prior resource management and leadership experience.
- Knowledge and experience in working with external workshare offices.
- P. Eng. in any Canadian Province.
Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:
Required:
- Engineering degree in Mechanical Discipline. Working knowledge in Mechanical Engineering or Piping Engineering.
