The Advisian material handling team work closely with our marine engineering and land transport teams in the development and optimisation of bulk and container export and import terminals. From ship to shore cranes to multi modal yards our concepts and designs are in operation all over the globe for some of the worlds largest shipping operators. Many of our projects start with little more than an idea expressed in a single line, and our job is to take that idea and build it into a reality. We design projects from initial concept sketches right the way through to design, execution and commissioning, and help our client scale from lab tests to giga-factory processes.

Container Operations Material Handling Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Container Operations Consultant to join our Material Handling team. In the Consultant role, you will be responsible for the design and development of container operations including the development of equipment specifications, layouts and operating procedures for our clients, improving efficiency of existing systems, and providing input into the selection and use of terminal operating systems. Your expertise will contribute to the overall success of our client projects by implementing best practices and maintaining a high level of organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of warehouse and production facility operations.
The Container Operations Material Handling Engineer is a full-time position, ideally based in East Vancouver, BC but open to hybrid work from across North America.
Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
The responsibilities of the role cover all aspects of projects from conceptual and feasibility studies through to FEED stages for multiple clients concurrently. These may include:
· Container Yard Layout and Design: working with the marine and client teams to develop and implement an efficient container yard layout that maximizes storage capacity and minimizes picking and travelling times
· Multi-Modal Yard Layout and Design: working with the land transport and client teams to develop and implement efficient yard facilities for movement of high volumes of filled and empty containers
· Knowledge of Ship to Shore equipment, Container Handling equipment, Yard equipment and Terminal Operating Systems
· Process Improvement Studies: Facility Inspections and Desktop Reviews
· Preparation of technical specifications and reports for equipment, warehousing, logistics systems and related facilities
· Vendor Management: Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely and accurate delivery of budget costs, estimates and documentation.
· Technology Implementation: Stay up-to-date with container handling equipment, particularly in the field of electrification, terminal operating systems (TOS) and other relevant technologies and identify opportunities to implement automation and digitalization to streamline operations for our clients.
· Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards in all projects
· Develop work plans, budgets, estimates and manpower forecasts
· Track and report work progress
· Mentor junior engineers and prepare training plans
· Be available for short term assignments worldwide
· Establish and grow internal and external client relations
Qualifications:
· A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, or significant practical experience
· Proven experience in container terminal design or operation including selection of handling systems and equipment
· Experience with terminal operating systems (TOS), container management techniques, and industry best practices
· Experience with bulk handling equipment is an asset
· Registered or eligible for registration with a professional engineering association
· Excellent technical writing and presentation skills
· Experience with Computer Aided Design software and Microsoft Office is preferred
· Good communication skills both written and verbal
· Excellent organizational and time management skills
· Exceptional interpersonal skills
For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $97,845 to $174,803 CAD per year
