Purpose

This is a full-time position located in one of our Alberta offices. Our Groundwater Practice within the Water Service Line is seeking an energetic, dynamic, and motivated mid-level hydrogeologist with strong technical and communication skills whose eager to join a growing group of professional hydrogeologists. The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 5 years experience in consulting hydrogeology, excellent time management and priority-setting skills, flexibility, and sound interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will carry out varied hydrogeologic field and office assignments requiring familiarity with a range of associated project tasks, including participating in project planning, field coordination and execution, task management, data analysis, and reporting, under the guidance of Senior and Principal Hydrogeologists.  


Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities

  • Task management and safe execution of groundwater field programs, including groundwater monitoring; supervision of contractors on site; drilling, borehole logging and monitoring well installations; and tracking and reporting on field activities.
  • Provide technical support for a variety of projects by working with subject matter experts to apply and develop knowledge and skills in areas that focus on groundwater resources, including physical and chemical hydrogeology; groundwater permitting; groundwater remediation, hydrogeological assessments; groundwater resources and sustainability; and environmental impact assessment.
  • Record, evaluate, and interpret geologic/hydrogeologic (environmental) data, prepare technical reports and work plans, and analyze and interpret results for hydrogeological characterization and assessment.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors to ensure safe completion of site activities.
  • Take initiative and possess excellent communication and writing skills, with an ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with excellent time-management skills.
  • Have a strong desire to develop as a consultant (team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self-starter that takes initiative, is adaptable, and provides a high quality of work).
  • Be detail-oriented, able to follow instructions, and communicate with staff to understand assignments or seek clarification as necessary.
  • Travel as required for various field programs.

Qualifications

  • Post-graduate or Bachelor’s degree in hydrogeology, geology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in environmental/engineering/water resources consulting.
  • Experience in the design and execution of drilling projects (mud rotary, sonic, auger, direct push), including planning, coordination, logging, and well design.
  • Experience in the field executing well sampling programs utilizing widely accepted and alternative sampling methods (i.e. no-purge, low flow, and dissolved gas sampling).
  • Experience working in rugged, physically demanding field environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in aquifer testing programs, including planning and execution of single well response and pumping tests.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, delivering quality results, while under pressure.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Drive for continuous improvement, including identification, evaluation, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Practical knowledge of working in remote settings, and mechanical aptitude, are considered assets.
  • Experience with project management and customer liaison are considered assets.
  • Candidate must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record.
